Cameron Diaz Praises Husband Benji Madden for Supporting Her Return to Acting After Nearly a Decade

Intro:

Cameron Diaz has opened up about her return to the big screen after nearly a decade, crediting her husband, musician Benji Madden, for his unwavering support. Speaking at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit on October 15, Diaz, 52, explained that Madden, 45, encouraged her to pursue acting again after focusing on family life.

The Role of Family in Diaz’s Hiatus
Cameron Diaz stepped away from acting after her role in the 2014 Annie remake to prioritize her personal life. In 2015, she married Madden, a guitarist for the band Good Charlotte, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Raddix, in 2019. Earlier this year, in March 2024, the family announced the arrival of their son, Cardinal.

During her break from Hollywood, Diaz focused on supporting Madden’s career and raising their children. Reflecting on that time, she shared, “We were in the house for a long time, which was amazing. So, I had to push myself.”

Support from Benji Madden
Diaz revealed how Madden played a key role in her decision to return to acting. “He’s just the best,” she said, describing how Madden motivated her during the transition. “He was just like, ‘You've been supporting us and building the family. It’s time for us to support you and let mommy ascend and do her thing.’”

Diaz expressed gratitude for her family’s love and support. “Taking a step back from my career felt like the right thing for me to reclaim my own life,” she said. “I didn’t care about anyone’s opinion or offer — I was focused on building the life I wanted.”

Exciting Return to the Screen
After almost a decade-long hiatus, Diaz is set to return in two major projects: the Jamie Foxx film Back in Action and Shrek 5. Her collaboration with Foxx marks their third film together, following Annie and Any Given Sunday in 1999. “I couldn’t say no to Jamie,” she shared. “He said, ‘Come with me,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’”

The Netflix film Back in Action, set to release on January 17, 2025, faced delays due to Foxx’s medical emergency in 2023, but the actress remains excited for the project’s completion.

Quote from Cameron Diaz: Passion for Family
Reflecting on her decision to leave Hollywood and focus on her family, Diaz said, “It really comes down to what you’re passionate about. For me, it was building my family.”

Conclusion:
With the support of her husband and family, Cameron Diaz is ready to make her long-awaited return to acting. Fans can look forward to seeing her on-screen in 2025, as she balances her passion for film and family life.
